Flash Kids (Giveaway)

Last year I highlighted some Flash Kids products over at 5 Minutes for Books. Since that time, we've been making good use of those books and so when I was offered a chance to check out some additional titles, I couldn't turn it down! This home schooling mother sure does appreciate the opportunity to check out supplemental materials.

Now, I'm not long into the home schooling game but I have discovered that it is very handy for me to have supplemental worksheets to hand out to the kids who I am not actively working on. What I mean by that is that when I'm focused explaining a particular concept to one child, it's nice to hand an easy-to-understand and use worksheet to another. That is where the Flash Kids worksheets come in handy for me personally.

I was invited to select three titles of my choosing from Sterling Publishing who produce the Flash Kids series. I selected the following titles:

The Number Dot-to-Dot and Number Puzzles and Games have come in the most handy and we've used these more frequently than the above title since their arrival. If you are in the market for a reasonably priced dot-to-dot book, this could be a front runner. Every page is it's own dot-to-dot adventure and it starts by only going up to the number 10. Slowly, through the 63-page book, the number count increases until the child is connecting dots from 1-25. There are also dot-to-dots in which the child must count by 2's or by 5's. It is a nice beginning book and also includes a certificate of completion in the back along with some stickers.

Number Puzzles and Games is filled with counting puzzles, mazes in which you have to follow the numbers in order. There are also coloring pages in which you are instructed to color only particular spaces based on how many dots are inside of each space. My four year old is able to track with the instructions on each page and, as I said, we're putting these books to good use. I'm a big fan of both of these titles.

My oldest has just about completed the Grade 2 edition of Math for the Gifted Student which is why we were interested in checking out Grade 3. There are a lot of word problems and logic problems involved in this Grade 3 workbook. Word problems are problems and I like the fact that there are only about a half dozen per page and they are evenly spaced in a larger sized font so as not to appear too intimidating at first glance. This book also contains full-color illustrations making it interesting to look through which is helpful. This shall come in handy.

Now, I picked out titles that were beneficial to our family but there are plenty others to choose from. Sterling Publishing has invited one of you to select a title of your choosing to help aid you in supporting the education of your child.

Would you care to win? First, go to the Barnes & Noble Flash Kids page and browse their titles and chose the one that you think will be of most use to your child. Then, come back and leave a comment on this post INCLUDING a valid e-mail address AND the title you would like to win should your name be selected as the winner.

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. THE WINNER, as selected by Random.org, is #6 - Bluerose. Congrats!

Flash Kid Products which might be of use to you?

Many thanks to Sterling Publishing who sent the above titles my direction for the express purpose of my being able to share my opinion of their products. I have received no additional compensation.

I like just about all of them. :) I think the alphabet activities or the number activities would be the most useful to us right now.

My Grandson will start Third Grade this Friday and all the flash books are great. The math and reading from the B&N site both would help him. I would like to get him the Math for the Gifted Student: Grade 3.
Thanks!
