A Charlie Brown Christmas (Giveaway)

Who hasn't seen the special animated film, A Charlie Brown Christmas? I think you've be hard pressed to find an American child who isn't familiar with this holiday classic. (And if you did find one, then you'd probably feel sorry for them and should probably show them the film!)

If you are in the happy habit of watching this seasonal classic, then you might be interested in A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Making of a Tradition. In this nice new hardback book you can read the behind-the-scenes story of how this film came to be made. You can learn a little bit about Schultz, see photographs of the movers and shakers who brought the Peanut characters to life, and see some of the early sketches. I found the first ads which were released to publicize this cartoon to be a fun curiosity.

There is a section of the book which includes an illustrated script should you be inclined to read the story instead of watch it. (The story is illustrated with screen shots.) And, should you feel like playing the music from the film on your very own piano, this book also includes sheet music for the songs performed by Vince Guaraldi.

Peanut fans will definitely be interested in this book, as well as anyone who is interested in film and television history. A Charlie Brown Christmas has definitely stood the test of time, delighting new audiences each year, as parents and grandparents introduce their progeny to the pathetic but lovable Charlie Brown. And why might the older generation be inclined to revisit this tale and pass it along to others? In the words of Charles Schultz:

"There will always be a market for innocence in this country."

I think that is most definitely true. I prefer Charlie Brown to more modern productions because the world of Charlie Brown is somewhat simple and very slow paced. The screen isn't throwing action and potty humor at you. Charlie Brown is just good, clean fun that is easy to enjoy. The same is true for this book. It's just a fun way to learn more about a favorite show.

If you too have appreciated this show, then you might also appreciate the fact that !t Books has offered to give away one copy of A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Making of a Tradition to one of you. To win? Simply leave a comment below including a valid e-mail address! This contest is open to US Residents only and will be open through Tuesday, November 26th.
