Reading to Know Classics Book Club :: That's a Wrap

Hey y'all,

Please consider this the wrap-up post for this past month's book club read (Grimm Fairy Tales). What with Thanksgiving last week, we'd be scrambling to try to write something up to post today. We hope you read along - at least a fairy tale or two. If you did, and want to share your reading experiences in the comment section of this post, please do.

We're going to go ahead with December's read which will be announced tomorrow but after this month we're going to let this book club pitter out. Frankly, it takes a good amount of time and energy to keep it going and I find myself needing to apply my attentions elsewhere these days. It's getting hard to remember to get things lined up at the beginning and end of each month and, again, its just not getting the attention that it needs.

I think 2016 will find Reading to Know book club-less. But of course (!) I'll still be hosting the (7th annual!) Lucy Maud Montgomery Reading Challenge in January.

I will also plan on hosting the (7th annual!) Chronicles of Narnia Reading Challenge come July.

However, a monthly planned read seems to be puttering out. As I wish television producers would do sometimes, I think the plug should be pulled on this show before we fall even further behind than we already are. (Ha.)

If you've planned on participating in the December read already, stay tuned. We'll follow through with the announcement for it tomorrow. If you were holding reading spots open in 2016 for potential book club reads, feel free to browse around and join in with someone else's brilliant (ahem) challenge. Or, consider it a free for all and read whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it! (I have to confess to liking that idea.)

MANY THANKS to each and every reader who has participated in some form or fashion in the classic book club over these past few years. Thanks to all who have provided input and recommended books which I might otherwise never have met. It was all quite wonderful. It's just time to say goodbye to the online book club idea (for now).

If you know of a good reading challenge that you'd like to recommend for others to consider in 2016, please leave a note below! I'm curious and I'm sure there are some others out there who might wish to jump in with some fresh, new idea! Thanks in advance.

I wondering if you were going to give it another go next year - I totally understand. It definitely gets harder as kids get older and their schooling requires more attention. (The nerve!) : ) Thanks for doing this for so many years ... onward and upward to what is next. : )

My takes on the tales I read are here: https://barbarah.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/a-few-grimms-fairy-tales/

I'm sorry to hear you won't be continuing the book club, but I understand. As the family grows and more of the children need to be taught, everything just takes up more time. I've really enjoyed being introduced to books I might not have read otherwise here. Thanks so much for doing this for so long!

I too am sad to see the book club go, but completely understand the rationale for doing so. I'm looking forward to continuing on with the L.M. Montgomery and Chronicles of Narnia Challenges - and am thinking this is a perfect opportunity to jump on board with Amy's Newbery Through the Decades challenge.

I finally wrote my own wrap-up post for The Brothers Grimm. While I didn't read quite as much as I had hoped to, I greatly enjoyed immersing myself in fairy tales this past month.

I loved the book club, even though I participated in fewer and fewer each year! lol Even when I didn't read the book, I enjoyed the write ups. But seasons. . .maybe some other day when we aren't quite so insanely busy! :)

Thank you for hosting all these years. I occasionally participated...but certainly enjoyed reading the posts about the book club. Many books were added to my list over the years, too. :)
