I've only seen the movies. ;) I really appreciate the thought that has gone into this review. Because of the topics in them I have absolutely no desire to read them, fictional or not. Too many other books that are calling my name. That being said I do like to read your reviews of them.Susannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02757963698816530787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31647067.post-62306327472558962932014-03-25T14:51:28.014-07:002014-03-25T14:51:28.014-07:00I'm just imagining how much stronger your opin...I'm just imagining how much stronger your opinions are going to get by the end! ;)
It's been a long time since I read these books. I LOVED them at the time. More recently, though, I had been given one of the books to start collecting them for my boys. The book being in my house made me so uncomfortable that I passed it on. (That said, I'm also really uncomfortable with the Narnia books, but I still have them packed away....debating.) :) Bluerosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00680170638396181756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31647067.post-59642641062729181882014-03-20T20:39:05.482-07:002014-03-20T20:39:05.482-07:00@Sky - I'm waiting for your BOOM. :D haha!!

If my children had been interested in them I probably would have checked them out. I did a post about Narnian magic a while back where I hashed out some of that. But I can see reading them to work through the question about why Narnian magic is ok and HP isn't. This time I'll just learn from your observations. :-)Barbara H.http://barbarah.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31647067.post-60027775463700106762014-03-20T13:08:53.548-07:002014-03-20T13:08:53.548-07:00I might come back and share thoughts later but wan...I might come back and share thoughts later but wanted to share what my husband said... "if she thought book three was disturbing, book four gets progressively darker." He did not finish the series due to time constraints but is considering finishing it. These are not Narnia and weren't designed to be Narnia. There are themes of good vs. evil and other universal themes in them, but the same can be said of Star Wars. And again, they are good stories but not something we can get Scriptural truths from.

Having said that, I didn't take the magic part as seriously as you do. That's a failing on my part, and you are correct to do so.

And they are very good stories.Mark Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11567392254011373198noreply@blogger.com
