I about skipped this review for the very reasons why you thought it might be for you. Glad I read on...I think that this would be a good book for me to read so I know how to encourage my pastors. Besides, I may be married to a pastor some day.

Carrie- could there BE a more perfect book for your guy?? (said with "Friends" intonation, of course!) It sounds fantastic, and nonfiction books have such an appeal to young children when they're beautifully done.

My kids love marine life too! Last summer I worked at our local zoo which had a touch tank with various invertebrates. We loved studying the animals with books from our library. This book sounds great. I would love to be entered for the giveaway.

Your friendly competition to finish reminds me of my own reading competition that I used to have with my sister.

I really want to read this book after reading your review. I've enjoyed Francine Rivers other books for the most part (except for her short novellas which I didn't like). Fantastic review! Now that I know more about what the book is about I have a feeling I will need to have tissues on hand as I read. Thanks for sharing your review and thanks for posting the link on the Book Blogs ning where I found it!

I do like #1-7, and this does sound like a compelling but possibly painful read as there was emotional abuse in my family. My father could be that way, but I don't think he realized he was. I don't know what made him that way -- and there is no one left to ask about it.

This post and Lisa's were together in my google reader so I went to 5MFB first. I was very confused as I read Lisa's review because I'd assumed you'd written it.

Ha! I think you're just mad I finished first! :-) But it WAS all great fun. I'll echo your review here. Poignant, engaging and frustrating pretty much sums it up! I liked the book, though, because #1-7 on your list ALL applied to me! ESPECIALLY numbers 1 and 7! :-)
