ReplyDelete@ Annette W. - I'd suggest one of Jane Austen's more popular works, such as "Pride and Prejudice," "Sense and Sensibility," or "Emma." The writing is very different from today --some people find it difficult to get through, but what helped for me was that PBS had been playing the BBC miniseries adaptations of Jane Austen's books, so it helped to watch those as I read (I found it hard to keep track of some minor or semi-main characters at times).
