Saturday Review of Books Highlights (for me)

Ok, so Sherry at Semicolon nicely hosts Saturday Review of Books each and every week. Each and every week she has over 100 book reviews linked up. Those reviews are just sitting there, begging to be read. My Saturday morning routine generally consists of grabbing breakfast and then going to see what new books can be "discovered" via Saturday Review. My TBR list grows but no matter. I have so much fun reading through people's reviews.

Obviously, I can't read all of the reviews. (That'd take forever.) But I do try for a sampling. For example, if one person post 3-4 reviews (and I'm frequently guilty of this myself) I pick 1-2 of the most interesting titles to read. I probably read about 15-20 reviews each week. If I had the time, I'd read them all. But I can't do that. Nevertheless, I do appreciate the opportunity to browse reviews. And since I know how nice it is to receive comments on my book reviews, I also make a point of leaving a comment at every review that I do read. (Remember, it is more blessed to give comments than to receive! Or something like that.)

I think I will start to post some of the book reviews that I read on my own blog and link you back to the reviewer. Perhaps it's overkill to Semicolon but I really do enjoy reading through the reviews and it's nice, as a reviewer, to be "spotted." So I'll spot some others and point them out to you.

This week Maw Books grabbed my attention. She reviewed a ton of YA fiction - most of which I haven't ever gotten around to reading myself. Top of her reading list is Julie and the Wolves which I received for Christmas last year but still haven't gotten around to reading. I've been meaning to before we get to this coming Christmas. Her review made me want to hop right on that.

Maw books also reviewed Rapunzel's Revenge which sounds incredibly intriguing.

Sarah at Library Hospital reviewed Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris which is an out-of-print book that I'll be hunting down in the near future. I saw the Angela Landsbury made-for-tv movie of it but didn't realize it was based on a book. Now I want to read it. GREAT find, Sarah!

gautami tripathy reviewed The Good Person Guidebook which sounds like a good I'd almost love to hate and am extremely curious about as a result. She always finds intriguing reads. She has her own style and it's not mine but occasionally she pops up with something that I'm just fascinated by! This is one of those titles.

Fireside Musings reviewed The Enchanted Castle. I was about to leave a comment saying, "I HAVE to read this!!!" when I noticed Sarah from Library Hospital had been there before me and left a similar comment. I'll race you to it, Sarah! - ha!

By far the most intriguing title to have caught my eye was The Chocolate War. It's a bit darker in subject matter than I like my books to be but the title sounds absolutely delicious all the same.

Lastly, I can always count on Becky's Book Reviews to provide something entertaining. This week it was Pippi Longstocking which I have never read.

There were so many more that I browsed and looked through but these are the highlights. Did you stumble across one of the reviews that you just loved? Blog about it! Leave comments! It just makes all the more fun.

LOL! It's on girl, oh it's on. :)

Btw, I'm very curious about Rapunzel's Revenge. I've read one other Shannon Hale book, which I liked. My friend Alision is a big Hale fan and is about to read RR.

I think this is a great idea. I even did the the same a fewtimes and highlighted a few reviews that were of special interest to me.

Unfortunately, I can't even do that every week.

WHoops, I was posting as my daughter in that last comment. She logs into her google account, and I end up being her.

Um, Carrie? I noticed your profile now says "mommy," and I'm wondering if I missed something? Would love to read an update!

congratulations!

I have heard a lot of good things about Rapunzel's Revenge too. I would like to read it, but the public library still does not have it... so sad... : (

Rapunzel's Revenge is a lot of fun.
I just read Mrs.'Arris goes to Paris and Mrs. 'Arris goes to New York. Next up, Mrs. 'Arris goes to Parliment! My friend loaned me "out of print" Gallico Magic (in which these are found). It's worth a mint! And Enchanted Castle is one of my favorite Nesbit books. Thanks for highlighting the Saturday Review of books, I've abstained from going lately, as all those good book ideas at one time can make my head spin! Your short list is easier to handle ; )
