Friday Five Favs

In case you missed the memo, Susanne over at Living to Tell the Story holds this weekly meme in which we are encouraged to list five things that we are especially grateful for, or were amused by, or generally feel blessed with over the course of the past week.

Our week was interesting in that we had a little stomach bug come and pay the entire household a visit. (And so I once again note the benefits of setting my blog to publish!) But in the midst of it, these are the things we've become grateful for:

1. The ability to eat normally. (You don't realize what a blessing that is until you can't!)

2. The ability to sleep uninterrupted. Oh yes. Blessed, blessed sleep!

3. That we live in the time period in history that we do:

4. That movies like this were made:

It's been YEARS since either Jonathan or I had seen it. We showed it to Bookworm1 one evening while we were all bonding on the couch, snacking on ice chips. He sat through the whole thing in rapt attention! (Well, he got a little bored after the intermission but became interested once again once I told him that the Nazi soldiers ("the very bad, bad soldiers") were coming to try to capture the children. I hope I didn't give him nightmares. I don't think I did. Mostly he was just curious as to whether or not the soldiers had swords (because, of course, all soldiers do!). At any rate, for a 3 1/2 year old, he showed a lot of interest in the movie. His favorite part? "The goat part." (Puppets, you know.)

5. For life-sustaining sustenance:

(The book arrived mid-week which has been anticipated and provided some fun distraction. The graham crackers? Well, they are the reason I'm still here.)

Looking forward to spices on my food again,

Carrie

This is my first visit to your blog. Found you through your link to Friday's Fave Five. We were sick this week too and oh, the wonders of a good nights sleep. I haven't watched the Sound of Music in ages. Love that one! Maybe this weekend I'll pull it out. Have a great day!

Ugh! Hope that tummy thing is ALL GONE now! We have been BLESSED not to have it YET this year! I keep praying we miss it altogether!

The Sound of Music is such a great movie! Glad your little guy enjoyed it! I would never have thought to put it on for one so small! My 5 yo granddaughter has just started enjoying Mary Poppins!

Hope next week is a MUCH better week for you!

Oh I had the evil stomach bug right before Christmas not fun. But it does make you appreciate sleep and food again. :) You are right with that one!
I love the Sound of Music, just watched over Christmas break. The goat puppets are such a classic, I can see why he would love it! :)
Hope you are feeling much better.

You can write a review for that on 5M4B if you want. I don't knwo what your plan was, but that's still a book that people (like me!!) are curious about.

Wonderful faves Carrie! So sorry you got the dreaded bug! That is absolutely my least favorite...ugh. Modern conveniences are amazing and when the power goes out we really understand better how great they are. Our 30 year old son watched the Sound of Music for the first time over Christmas. He was so impressed and wondered why he had never seen it before. I'm old enough that the first time I saw it was in a theater in Hollywood with an intermission!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend with normal food and some good sleep!!

Oh, I hope you are all well soon! And you're right about taking eating for granted. So sleep lots and get well.

Oh, one of my FAVORITE movies of all time! My girls have never seen all of it, but we caught it on tv at my mom's one night, and they were quite interested. I need a copy.

I'm sorry you all have been sick. I hope that you're recuperated by now.

Graham crackers are one of my favorite of all snacks, sick or no. :-)

Oh those bugs are not very nice. We've gone through those bugs and it is during those times that I am oh so thankful for a washing machine. It's interesting how we take those simple things for granted.

I love "Sound of Music" too.

Sorry you all were under the weather! I'm glad everyone's better. Yes, I can identify with the joy of eating normally again after being sick.

When my boys were younger and didn't think they'd like Sound of Music, I drew them with the puppets. :-)

Can you imagine doing laundry with a wash board? Technology does make our lives easier. I do wish we still had some more of the innocence of yesteryear in our society. You have to look much harder to find it. Glad you are feeling better. Have a great week!

Yuck, Carrie. Hope you are all better soon!

I am constantly thanking God for things like washing machines. I don't think I'd make a very good pioneer girl.

Sound of music is one of my all time favorite movies. I loved sharing it with my kids.

The stomach flu is such a hard thing to go through.

How fun to introduce your son to the Sound of Music, my daughter loved watching that when she was young.

Enjoy your food!

It must be wonderful watching your son in rapt attention, as you said, on Sound of Music. I watch it once in awhile over the years. Hope the bug's gone now.

So sorry you've been sick!!! I'm thankful for my own washer and dryer every week when I'm washing my 8-10 (FULL) loads of laundry!!

Willow said...

Oh no! I hope you're feeling better now. Aren't you thankful we live in a period of time when having the flu is not an automatic death sentence? I've always said my washer is my best friend!

Have a happy healthy weekend!

I'm glad you're feeling better! Stomach bugs are the WORST. (Though I always like losing a quick 5 pounds...)

We need to try 'Sound of Music' with our kids.

Hi Carrie

It's funny but my daughter and her friend were watching Sound of Music during our storm last night (now power loss:) and it was the first time he had ever seen it - and he's 17. Probably the 50th time my daughter has seen it. It's her favourite. And she still gets scared during the Nazi scene :)

Oh yes - the washing machine - what a blessing esp during tummy trouble times.

I popped over to my library site as soon as I saw your book - and we have it! Looking forward to it.

I hope you and the rest of the gang are feeling better very soon.

I'll be anxious to hear more about that book once you've finished it. The cover and title are intriguing.

Isn't it fun to introduce your kids to movies you loved?

You're about the third person I've visited today that said the entire family was sick this week. Wow.

Hope all are better.

Sorry you had a stomach bug. I hate those. But yes, it does make you appreciate eating again!

Oh, the Sound of Music--so delightful! I need to get it out and watch it again myself...
