Friday Five Favs

Ok, this past week I finally "gave in" and introduced Bookworm1 to Sesame Street. Let me be blunt about this: I hate Elmo. Drives me nuts. That silly little voice. I don't get it. Bookworm1 gets it but I had to draw the line somewhere. We watched some Elmo but I encouraged other characters of the more "vintage" Sesame Street variety.

I remember watching Sesame Street growing up but we hadn't shown any of it to Bookworm1 yet. But then he kept asking about the characters he would see periodically and would want to know who they were. Enter Youtube.

Now, why would SESAME STREET land on my top five favs this week!? Because I've actually enjoyed relieving it with Bookworm1 and we had fun flipping through little snippets that we found online. Here are our top five favorite Sesame Street clips that we found and enjoyed together online!

#1 - THE TWIDDLEBUGS that live on Bert & Ernie's window sill! Oh my word, I had forgotten...! I LOVED these bugs when I was little.

#2 - RUBBER DUCKY! "Rubber ducky...you're the one...." Bookworm1 had a huge smile on his face while we watched this one:

#3 - KERMIT! But this video was actually more about the little girl laughing periodically throughout this clip. Everytime she laughed, so did we!

#4 - BIG BIRD! Now he finally really knows who Big Bird is. This song, by the way, is beyond hilarious if you are three years old and learning how letters make words.

#5 - Speaking of phonics humor (I bet you never, ever thought of phonics being funny, did you? Oh, it's a hoot! We assure you!)...THE SIGN MAN! I had totally forgotten about this guy but we watched every single clip we found of him because Bookworm is currently at the stage where he is putting together letters/sounds and making words. The funnier the word, the better. And what word on earth is more funny than "BUPR"!? I dare you to share one....

Another way to translate this Friday Five would be the following:

1. I enjoyed the sound of my son's laughter.
2. I enjoyed the sound of my son's laughter.
3. I enjoyed the sound of my son's laughter.
4. I enjoyed the sound of my son's laughter.
5. I enjoyed the sound of my son's laughter.

But that wouldn't have told you WHY. Now you know.

Wishing you much laughter this weekend,

Carrie

You know I posted the review of The Mr Men show at 5 Minutes for Books this week, and one thing that I do really like about it, is that Kyle absolutely cracks up when watching it -- belly laughs!

I hated Elmo until Amanda was that age. She loved him, so I came to appreciate it. I DO love the quirky Bert and Ernie the best though!! And Grover. How great is Grover?

I LOVED "Rubber Ducky!" Elmo does get on my nerves after about, oh, 3 seconds.

You’re a brave woman to admit you hate Elmo. Ha. I haven’t watched Sesame Street in years, but I’ve heard that Cookie Monster is now Veggie Monster? Say it ain’t so!
I love your translation. Way to be a great mom!

Fabulous Carrie! Even at 31 and 29 I enjoy hearing our sons laugh!! And I agree Elmo needs some voice therapy....

I'm in the middle of Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street and it's fascinating. I'm still at the early stages where the show is just getting funding but I can't wait to learn more about the characters.

I am keeping this tab open to show those classic clips to my kids when they get home later, I know they'll love them! Especially the little girl doing the alphabet. :)

Laughter -- one of the things that was a favorite for me this week, too!

We loved SS right along with the kids when they were little. And childrens laughter, is there anything sweeter?

Relieving things to our kids is such fun, isn't it? I watched Sesame Street when I was a kid too, but I enjoyed Electric Company better, (did you watch it too? I wonder where is it now). I also remember being annoyed by Elmo's voice.

On my second teaching assignment abroad, I dealt with 5-6 year-olds and guess who was up on the welcome bulletin? "Big Bird welcomes you to class!" :)

Ahhh... Sesame Street. Or as it was known around my house - Stephanie's Street. :)

There's nothing better than the sound of a child's laughter. Awesome post!

Too fun. My daughters have outgrown Sesame Street, but I still sing 'C is for Cookie' from time to time in a raucous cookie monster voice...

What great clips! I had never thought about using You Tube to see classic Sesame Street. My kids never got into that much, and I didn't really push it because I didn't think the current episodes are as good as the classics. Thanks for sharing these clips, and what could be sweeter than the sound of your own child's laughter?

I never watched Sesame Street when I was a kid but I do know the classic rubber ducky clip. Hearing one's child laugh is the best thing ever.

I love my kids laughter too!
And Kermit, well, he's always been favorite!

Awww...this was wonderful.

There is absolutely nothing as lovely as a child's laughter!

Oh, my girls got to watch Sesame Street for the first time this weekend while we've been on a little mini-vacation. Lulu was unconvinced, but I think she liked it in the end. I'll have to show them the clips, especially of the sign man.

Great list, Carrie!

Ah the delights of Sesame Street. I got some Sesame DVD's for my birthday this year. Yes, I'll repeat: *I* got Sesame DVD's... I'm 34 and have never stopped loving and laughing along.
Great post!
