1. O sacred Head, now wounded,
with grief and shame weighed down,
now scornfully surrounded
with thorns, thine only crown:
how pale thou art with anguish,
with sore abuse and scorn!
How does that visage languish
which once was bright as morn!
2. What thou, my Lord, has suffered
was all for sinners' gain;
mine, mine was the transgression,
but thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior!
'Tis I deserve thy place;
look on me with thy favor,
vouchsafe to me thy grace.
3. What language shall I borrow
to thank thee, dearest friend,
for this thy dying sorrow,
thy pity without end?
O make me thine forever;
and should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never
outlive my love for thee.
"God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Titus 3:5
"If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10
"For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16
Today I am grateful to know and believe with all of my heart that Jesus is Lord. I am grateful for the sacrifice that He made so that I could come to Him and know Him. Yes, life is hard. Yes parts of it are excruciatingly difficult. It will always be like that, in part. But I'm not walking this road alone. Instead, I'm walking with someone who knows every pain before I have ever encountered it. Who better to trust that someone who lived with scorn, scandal, shame and disgrace and can walk me through it? I trust Him.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
