Time for another Read Aloud Thursday. Usually I post my RAT posts over at Reading My Library in conjunction with that challenge. However as I mentioned I would do, if Bookworm1 and I read a chapter book, I'll talk about it over here! (That, plus with a new baby we haven't actually made it to the library in a bit!)
We first read The Littles Take a Trip back in February (title linked to my review) and really enjoyed the story about these tiny people. Since that reading, we have collected several additional titles in the Littles series, by John Peterson. Recently we read The Littles and the Lost ChildrenIn The Littles and the Lost Children
However, in pressing ahead with the idea of finding and doing business with the Trash Tinies, they end up losing their two children in a tragic accident (or so they believe.) What the Small-Frys do not realize is that the children have been found by the Trash Tinies, who assume that the childrens' parents have been killed. They are brought to the Trash City and placed in an orphanage where they remain - for a good many years. (They are very well loved and taken care of in this particular orphanage, for the record!)
Eventually, parents and children are reunited. The story is rather unbelievable and can play on emotions. Lost children, adoption, separation and reunion are all themes in this book. None of these things bothered Bookworm1 but I should point them out all the same.
We still enjoy The Littles and were happy reading about this little adventure. We have plenty more stories to choose from and I let Bookworm1 select the titles he is most interested in. Not sure which we will get to next but we both recommend The Littles as a great read-aloud!

aww I remember the littles :) my girls won't read a littles book for anything :(
I'm pretty sure I have The Littles in my box of books from my teaching days...I'm not sure if we have the patience for it...but in a few more months, I think we will!
This is a wonderful series of books!!! It's nice to see that someone is still reading them. Thanks for the review!
My girls are enjoying the audio of The Borrowers now, so I bet they'd like this. I'm SO glad you played today! :-)
My brother and I loved the Littles as well when we were kids...
Here it is! I read this in my reader but it wasn't up here at your blog. (Blogspot issues, I gather.)
Anyway, thanks for reminding me about the Littles. I remember enjoying these stories when I was younger. I'd like to introduce them to my girls.
