Booking Through Thursday

This week's question on Booking Through Thursday is:

What, in your opinion, is the best book that you haven’t liked? Mind you, I don’t mean your most-hated book–oh, no. I mean the most accomplished, skilled, well-written, impressive book that you just simply didn’t like.

I have several of these, really. But I'll still with the one that is still nagging at me. Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. I just don't like Dickens. He's too wordy, he is hard to understand and is just plain BOOOOOORRRRINNNNNGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother is a huge Dickens fan. (She likes Dickens. She isn't huge.) I have friends who like Dickens. I have friends who don't like Dickens but still read him. I'm about to join their ranks because I've agreed to read Bleak House with Sarah this month. If all goes well, and I get through this alive, I might go back to A Tale of Two Cities. Might. We'll see.

Ha! I didn't think anyone else had a problem with A Tale of Two Cities like I do! How refreshing! My post is about this book too. :)

Some of my favorites are Dickens! :)

I liked Tale of Two Cities, but I agree that it's lengthy. I have three other titles for my answer. Come see. Happy BTT.

If you do ever decide to pick up A Tale of Two Cities let me know. I've always wanted to read that book. Maybe if we make it through Bleak House together we can add ATTC some day... just not right away.

I love Dickens! I've read most of his widely known books and always love them BUT I hated Tale of Two Cities too. It's the French history thing for me. Can't stand anything about the French Revolutiion.

Oh, I really liked A Tale of Two Cities! I did, however, check Bleak House out from the library once, only to read a few pages, and promptly return it. I'm a wimp and I'm not afraid to own it--especially as I just finished Wives and Daughters TODAY ! Yippee!

Dickens is one of those authors for whom "abridgment" was invented.

My parents enjoyed the Bleak House mini series done by the BBC and shown on PBS recently. If the book proves too much, you might want to get a hold of it.

I never liked A Tale of Two Cities, but I actually think the best disliked book on my list is Anna Karenina. Beautiful writing; obnoxious and unlikable character.

I read Bleak House earlier this year for uni and I had to finish it in 2 weeks. It was an amazing read! Don't let the size put you off (although some good editing might have done Dickens good) or the slow start. I have had Two Cities on my shelf for awhile now - should get around to cracking it open!

Read David Copperfield or Oliver Twist. I like his books a lot. His characterization is good.

My BTT post!
