Friday's Fave Five

Things I am most grateful for:

1. My husband.

We're approaching 5 years which I know is not a long time compared to some of you, but we're content in it. As we approach five years, we're happy to be continuing to learn how to be a blessing to one another. Each year we grow - together!

God really is a genius. (I don't say that flippantly.) He had a grand plan when He put the two of us together and we are receiving the benefits of Someone else's handiwork for which we are truly grateful.

Present thing that I am the most grateful for in Jonathan: He tells us and shows us every day that we are important to him. He really works hard to love each of us in the way we most feel loved. It's a mighty fine MAN who will do that and I'm consciously blessed by this.

2. My friend. I had a perfectly lovely and wonderful (and perfect) time with my friend who came to visit. Here is a (self-portrait-y) picture of us from this time:

Her presence is always a blessing. Her friendship is more valuable to me than I could possibly say. No really -there are no words. We did the usual thing of arguing about who was going to pay for what and saying how much we enjoyed each other's company. I love her. I really, really do! I'm so glad that we had another visit with one another and I'm so sorry that she lives on the opposite side of the country from me! But to have such a friend...! No words really. She. is. amazing.

3. A little bitty snow fall that stuck long enough to make children overly excited and adults not excited enough. It was a hard snow fall, but brief. It was fun to watch. I hope that we get one really good snowfall around here but for now I'm thankful we had an afternoon of it.

On the other hand, I'm equally grateful that we've hovered around 45 degrees which makes things quite tolerable! I wouldn't complain though if we got a really, REALLY good snowfall sometime this winter. I love living in a winter wonderland for about 3 days out of the year. Yes, I'm generous about winter that way.

4. The sound that sheep make.

What? Well, "baa" is actually a really funny sound. If you are a little person. And the sound that little people make when they are really happy is charming to adults. So I have to be thankful for sheep because the sound "baa" has produced an enormous amount of giggles around these parts. Don't ask me why. I cannot tell you. I can only be grateful.

5. The things little children say. The other day Bookworm1 was talking to me about bats and how God created them.

Bookworm1: Bats have teeth.
Mommy: That's right, they do.
B: So, they will bite God.
M: No, they can't bite God. He made them and He's bigger than they are. A bat cannot bite God.
B: No mommy - here's the rule about bats*: they have teeth. So they will bite God.
M: But God made them and He will not allow Himself to be bitten. It's just like Aslan. Remember how Aslan always wins? God always wins. The bats always lose. God cannot be bitten by a bat.
B: But they have teeth.

*I don't know how many times I've used the phrase "here's the rule" but apparently enough times that it is now being mimicked!

Ha ha!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! See ya Monday!

Blessings,

Carrie

I love your conversation with Bookworm1. So precious. {smile}

If you can say this: "We're happy to be continuing to learn how to be a blessing to one another" then you have a fabulous marriage. That is wonderful. I feel the same way about my man, and I totally agree that God IS A GENIUS.

Thanks for your prayers for my dad's health. I count each prayer as precious.

Blessings,
Lisa

What a lovely heartwarming list this week, Carrie. Congrats on your five years together. May you enjoy the next five years walking and growing through life together.

Love the bat conversation. LOL. Kids perspectives are so cute.

A friend like you have found is absolutely priceless even if they do live far away. What a blessing.

One of my favorite phrases during child rearing days: That's not allowed. Let's do it this way.

Congrats on your wonderful marriage. You are truly blessed.

Snow? I used to know what that word meant... I'm pleased that you are enjoying a little bit of it.

God is amazing in the way that he puts people together. Its always perfect. Remember that :)

For some reason the sound of sheep makes me laugh too, probably because I don't hear it too often.

What a sweet tribute to your husband! And what a great treasure is a friend like that.

I'm like that with snow -- once a year, maybe lasting a day or two, is fun and is quite enough for me.

I wish I had recorded my kids' fun conversations. And it's funny how we don't realize things we say til we hear them echoed.

What a great list! Congrats on your 5 years.

"Here's the rule." I have to remember that -- something to break up the monotony of "This is the one time I'm going to say it." :-)
