What's on Your Nightstand?

What's On Your Nightstand It's time AGAIN for What's on Your Nightstand over at 5 Minutes for Books.

This month my "nightstand" is OVERFLOWING! I was just about to type the vow that I wouldn't pick up any new books until I've read all of the ones that are already on my shelf. However, I don't think we should make promises that we do not intend to keep and although I may have the best of intentions I am greatly lacking in willpower. Guess I'll just have to keep on keeping on and trying to get through my stack!

Last month I said I was going to read Book Two of Edmund Spense's Faerie Queen for my personal pleasure but that didn't happen. I also said I was going to read a lot of books by Lucy Maud Montgomery and that DID happen. It has been pleasurable but I have to say I'm ready to move on to something else and give Montgomery a break. (Shock, I know. Not that I couldn't read Montgomery forever but then you have to factor in the old proverb which clearly states that 'variety is the spice of life'.)

I also accomplished my reading for 5 Minutes for Books by reading How to Be Like Walt and How to Solve Your People Problems. Check! Check! Now moving on. . .

This month for 5 Minutes for Books I am hoping to read some fiction books:

1. In the Shadow of the Sun King (Darkness to Light Series, Book 1), by Golden Keyes Parsons. (I don't think I've ever heard of an author with such an interesting name, have you!?)

2. Then I'd like to tackle another round of Wodehouse just because he's fun. I have sitting on my shelf here Something Fishy and Nothing Serious.

For my personal pleasure I'll be reading:

1. The Remarkable Women of the Bible: And Their Message for Your Life Today, by Elizabeth George and;

2. Les Misérables. Technically, I suppose, I'm rereading Les Mis for the 5 Minutes for Books Classic Bookclub but I'm doing it out of pleasure so I'll keep it in this category.

And with any luck I'll also make it through more of The Faerie Queen. We'll see. The heart is definitely willing but the flesh is incredibly weak.

I've never read any Wodehouse -- at least not yet. Haven't read any Elizabeth George either, though I have a similar John McArthur book to the one you mention here.

Sheesh, the first post I've looked at and already two new authors on my tbr list...!

Good luck with Faerie Queen!

I had to LOL about saying something that you don't intend to honor, because even though my TBR pile is big and overflowing and demanding like yours, there are also books that are trying to horn their way in -- already!!

Ooh, I'm already looking forward to what you will say about the Elizabeth George book. It's been a while since I've picked up one of hers, but I love hearing a word from her. :)

I like your list. I have an Elizabeth George book I've been wanting to start also: Keep a Quiet Heart.

Sounds good, Carrie. I'm thinking maybe that my list is too ambitious since I, too, am reading Les Miserables this month. I've got to look into Wodehouse--I've never read him.

Happy reading!

The Remarkable Women of the Bible definitely sounds interesting to me - might have to look into that one.

I saw that Elizabeth George book at the bookstore recently and was wondering about it. I just started one of her books, too.

I always tell myself the same thing - that I won't buy anymore books, but that is an impossible promise to keep. :) I have les miserables on my tbr pile to read for later in the year. I haven't read any wodehouse but probably should. Something else to add to my ever growing wishlist.

My post is up now.

Thanks.

Like Janet I too have never heard of Wodehouse. I will have to look into this author. Looks like you have a full list of reading scheduled :-)

"promises I don't intend to keep"

LOL...yes, that's me when it comes to buying books!

Good Luck on your reading list. I do have a ton of books on my list, but since the next "I read it" isn't until March, I should be able to work up a big post for that round. Then maybe she'll keep that meme.

How are you getting through Les Mis for pleasure? I had such a hard time reading it I finally broke down and bought the audio version on CD. I love the story but get so bogged down (not like me at all) but the CD really helps.

I need to pay more attention to the classics book club. You are the second person I have seen reading Les Mis this month and it sounds interesting. I'll be adding it to my TBR list.

I love Wodehouse--those are some fun books to read and I would much rather him than Les Mis? :)

I'm not sure that I'll be reading Les Miserables for the book club, but I have read it twice before in my life, so I hope to be able to participate!
